Weller's Community Newsletter

October 12, 2026

Great job with our attendance CBEDS Day!!!

Dear Weller Families,

Thank you so much to everyone who made our CBEDS Day this past Wednesday such a phenomenal success! We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we achieved an outstanding 98.85% attendance rate, with only 5 students absent across the entire school. Even more impressive, 13 out of our 18 classrooms had perfect attendance! Our students celebrated this achievement with fun activities throughout the day—please check out the pictures and videos below to see all the smiles.

I would also like to thank and congratulate our elected School Site Council members: Tim Craig, Kenny Gong, Poorna Rajaraman, and Vijayabharathi Ganesan! Thank you for stepping up to be leaders for our school.

As you read through the rest of this week’s newsletter, be sure to catch up on some important upcoming events and school updates:
  • No School on Monday, October 12th: Enjoy the long weekend and explore our Indigenous Heritage Month bookrooms.
  • Chipotle Fundraiser: Support our Science Camp next Wednesday, October 14th.
  • Important Updates: Art Club sign-ups, read up on our new volunteer procedures, and the annual field trip pledge drive.
  • Upcoming Fall Fun: Mark your calendars for our upcoming Trunk-or-Treat, Pumpkin Patch, and Halloween Parade at the end of the month!

Thank you for your continued partnership and for staying so engaged with our school community. Have a fantastic and restful weekend!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Elzey and Mrs. Sharma

Weller's Core Values

We are focusing on CREATIVITY this month as part of our Core Values Program! Students will be reading our book of the month, Only the Best: The Exceptional Life and Fashion of Ann Lowe, to learn about our artistic and visionary leader, Ann Lowe. Students will engage in discussions and activities throughout the month to learn more about our spotlight leader and our core value: Creativity. As students participate in our lessons they are also creating special Core Values Books that they will be able to take home at the end of the year! We encourage all families to participate with our Core Values Program! Please see below to learn more. 😁 Please click HERE to watch and listen to a read aloud of this month's story.

NEW VOLUNTEER PROCEDURES

Volunteers play a vital role in enhancing our students' educational experiences and supporting our daily school activities.

The district has changed the volunteer process for efficiency and to ensure student safety. We will now be following a new process for all NEW parent volunteers, effective immediately. Paper volunteer forms are no longer accepted.

The Volunteer Application now requires families to complete a Google Form along with a mandated training. The mandated training will need to be completed by all current approved AND new volunteers.

Steps to Complete the Process:
  1. Visit musd.org.
  2. Click on Get Involved
  3. On the drop down menu, select Volunteer Opportunities.
  4. Click on the Volunteer Instructions and Form link to access the detailed instructions.
  5. Google form link: Volunteer google form link

Important Information for Existing/Approved Volunteers:
  • Ensure your TB test/assessment is up-to-date (must be renewed every 4 years).

Below are the links you can reference.
MUSD Volunteer Fingerprint Form (If you have done fingerprinting in the past, you do not have to redo it)

The process takes about two weeks for brand new volunteers and about a week for past volunteers.

If you have any questions, you may contact Ms. A at 408-635-2876 x1107 or areynosoakbarzad@musd.org

Thank you in advance for your cooperation, patience, and commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient environment for our students.

ANNUAL FIELD TRIP PLEDGE DRIVE

It is time for our annual Joseph Weller Pledge Drive to gather funds for student field trips. The hope is that families can contribute funds towards student field trips one time at the beginning of the school year to take care of all the trips that would happen throughout the year. A one-time donation of $50.00 per child will ensure that your student’s class can go on a field trip this year. THANK YOU TO THE FAMILIES THAT HAVE ALREADY DONATED!

Join PTA

Joining the PTA is a way to show your support for the teachers, staff, and students. Support can come in many forms, and joining the PTA doesn’t have to be a huge time commitment. 😊

Membership fee is $20 per family, which includes all of your students and their parents/guardians. The PTA is a 501(c)(3) organization so the membership fee and additional donations are tax deductible as allowed by the IRS. Please fill out this membership form and send it into the school to your student’s teacher or drop it by the office with the $20 membership fee. You can also join through our Totem page if you prefer. We also always accept membership registrations at our events, just find our table or one of the PTA officers.

We are always looking for volunteers to help us run our events. After you’ve joined the PTA, fill out this form and let us know what you’re interested in volunteering for and we’ll be in touch!

COSTUMES:
  • Student, please wear your costumes to school. If you are not wearing a costume to school you can come to school in free dress or your school uniform.
  • Full face masks and blow up costumes ONLY during the parade. After the parade, masks and accessories will need to be stored away in the classroom.
  • NO weapons of any kind and please no fake blood. We want students of all ages to be able to enjoy the day and parade.
  • Students should wear comfortable clothing underneath their costumes so that, if necessary, they may remove their costumes to finish the school day.

PARADE:
Weller families are invited to comeand view our Halloween Parade at 8:15am. Please view the map below to see where parents and family members can view from. Families can begin to come onto campus at 8:10am, after students have made their way into their classrooms.
We ask for your cooperation and organization during the parade to ensure that we have a successful and organized parade that everyone can enjoy. Students will be seated in a large circle on the blacktop with family members standing behind them. Students will parade around the inner circle by grade level. Our families did a GREAT job last year, so we know this year will be just as wonderful. Thank you!
