Thank you for all of your fundraising support!

Dear Weller Families,

We did it! Thanks to your incredible generosity and support, we have officially met our goal for the APEX fundraiser! The whole school came out to see us get slimed. :) We are so grateful for our amazing community. Thank you for stepping up to help our school thrive.

We are focusing on AUTHENTICITY this month as part of our Core Values Program! Students will be reading our book of the month, There Was A Party for Langston: King of Letters, to learn about our incredible and generous leader, Langston Hughes. Students will engage in discussions and activities throughout the month to learn more about our spotlight leader and our core value: Authenticity. As students participate in our lessons they are also creating special Core Values Books that they will be able to take home at the end of the year! Important Information to know for the week ahead.

Our Family- Teacher Goal Setting Conferences Begin on Monday

September 28th - October 2nd - Please make sure you have signed up!

What is a Goal-Setting Conference?
A Goal-Setting Conference takes place early in the school year. It is an opportunity for teachers, families, and students to meet and begin to build the relationships that are critical to successful home-school partnerships. At this conference, you will discuss: 
  • Your child’s strengths,  both academic and social/emotional/behavioral 
  • Your child’s areas for growth, both academic and social/emotional/behavioral
  • Goals for your child for the year
  • Strategies to help your child reach those goals at both school and home

How can I prepare for a Goal-Setting Conference?
  1. Sign up for and attend your child’s conference! Your child’s teacher will send home information about how to select a conference time! 
     
  2. You know your child! Think about your child’s strengths and areas for growth. Here are some questions to ask yourself before the conference:
  • What is my child good at? What are they interested in? 
  • What are my goals for my child this year? Do I want them to become a better reader? Do I want them to become more confident in their math abilities? Do I want them to persevere when tasks are challenging? 
  • What do I hope my child will accomplish this year (behavior or academic)?
  • What does my child hope to accomplish this year (behavior and academic)?
  • What type of learning environment do I hope my child is a part of?
  • How do I think my child learns best?

  1. Expect to engage in a conversation with the teacher. Goal-Setting conferences are not about the teacher just giving you information about your child. They are an opportunity for you and the teacher to get to know each other better and to make agreements about how you will both support your child to grow this year. 
     
  2. Bring your child! This is a conference about them - we want them to know that we are a team, here to support them!

Students will have the opportunity to shop in our Mustang Market this Friday. Remember to bring your Mustang Money to shop with!
 

ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH


Our goal at Weller is to have 97% or better attendance. Continue to help us MAINTAIN our goal!

Whole School Attendance Average = 97.05% 

CBEDS Day is Coming!! October 7th = BE AT SCHOOL!

The CBEDS count day is our BIG, OFFICIAL student count day! This is the day we count students and this count becomes our base number for ALL of the funding formulas (average daily attendance, Title I, Supplemental, etc). So it is CRITICAL that we have as close to perfect attendance as possible. Our district's student attendance rates continue to be a huge focus, so getting as accurate a count as possible for Weller on October 7th is of the utmost importance.

  • Lunch and breakfast is available for all students. Breakfast will be served from 7:30- 7:55am and lunch will be served during the school day.

NEW VOLUNTEER PROCEDURES

Volunteers play a vital role in enhancing our students' educational experiences and supporting our daily school activities.

The district has changed the volunteer process for efficiency and to ensure student safety. We will now be following a new process for all NEW parent volunteers, effective immediately. Paper volunteer forms are no longer accepted. 

The Volunteer Application now requires families to complete a Google Form along with a mandated training. The mandated training will need to be completed by all current approved AND new volunteers. Current, cleared volunteers will not have to fill out the Google Form. For our previously cleared volunteers, our HR department will reach out to those who need to renew/update/or complete pending documents in the future.

Steps to Complete the Process:
  1. Visit musd.org.
  2. Click on the Volunteer tab.
  3. Click on the Volunteer Instructions and Form link to access the detailed instructions.
  4. Google form link: Volunteer google form link
Important Information for Existing/Approved Volunteers:
  • Ensure your TB test/assessment is up-to-date (must be renewed every 4 years).

CAMPUS MONITOR VOLUNTEERS - WE NEED YOU!

We are currently short staffed and are in need of volunteers to help us support our students' recess and lunch times. If you are cleared to volunteer and are available to help us during the week, please let us know! You can reach out to Mrs. Elzey (delzey@musd.org) or Mrs. Sharma (jsharma@musd.org). We are so thankful for your consideration! 
Lunch times: 
  • TK: 11:00am - 11:40am
  • Kindergarten: 11:00am - 11:45am
  • 1st- 3rd Grade: 11:30am - 12:10pm
  • 4th - 6th Grade: 11:00am - 11:50am
 

ANNUAL FIELD TRIP PLEDGE DRIVE

It is time for our annual Joseph Weller Pledge Drive to gather funds for student field trips. The hope is that families can contribute funds towards student field trips one time at the beginning of the school year to take care of all the trips that would happen throughout the year. A one-time donation of $50.00 per child will ensure that your student’s class can go on a field trip this year. THANK YOU TO THE FAMILIES THAT HAVE ALREADY DONATED!
 

Classroom Supplies & Donation Wishlists

Please take a look at the classroom supply lists that our teachers have put together to help students get ready for the beginning of the school year. Most supplies will be provided for your students and any donations would be greatly appreciated.

Join PTA

Joining the PTA is a way to show your support for the teachers, staff, and students. Support can come in many forms, and joining the PTA doesn’t have to be a huge time commitment. 😊

Membership fee is $20 per family, which includes all of your students and their parents/guardians. The PTA is a 501(c)(3) organization so the membership fee and additional donations are tax deductible as allowed by the IRS. Please fill out this membership form and send it into the school to your student’s teacher or drop it by the office with the $20 membership fee. You can also join through our Totem page if you prefer. We also always accept membership registrations at our events, just find our table or one of the PTA officers.

We are always looking for volunteers to help us run our events. After you’ve joined the PTA, fill out this form and let us know what you’re interested in volunteering for and we’ll be in touch!
