Principal's Message
Good Morning Weller Families! 🐎

We have now completed the first full week of the school year and the students continue to shine in all of our Core Values of Kindness, Connection, Courage, and Critical Thinking. Thank you families for supporting Weller and helping us to have a successful start to the school year. Also, thank you to all of the families who have donated tea and cookies! The staff is loving the treats. 😁

Every year, our school district conducts two community surveys. Our first survey is now available and we would love to have Weller voices represented. Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey: MUSD Family Engagement Survey. The survey results will be shared anonymously with school sites, the School Board, and the community to help shape our district's Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). Thank you for your time and feedback!

Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter and have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Elzey
We need your help!

JOIN SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL
What is School Site Council (SSC)?
School Site Council is a group of parents, teachers, and school staff who meet monthly with the principal to review site plans (School Plan for Student Achievement or SPSA), school data, and the school budget. This team collaborates with the principal to analyze the implementation of school programs and to make sure that programs are meeting the needs of Weller students. All members of school site council are elected by their peers (ie. parents are elected by other parents, teachers are elected by other teachers, etc.).
Why should you serve on SSC?
School Site Council is a great way for parents/family members to learn about and get involved in the decision-making process at Weller! You'll learn about the programs we run at Weller, how we budget and determine where to spend funds, and how to analyze how effective our programs are. Plus - we have a great time!
Ready to nominate??
Please complete the information on this SSC Nomination Form if you are interested in a seat on the council.  Your input and collaboration is highly valued in support of our students. We are looking to fill one officer position and are welcoming other official council members.
What if I have more questions?
Email Mrs. Elzey at delzey@musd.org
Nominations will be taken through August 29th.

LOAVES & FISHES FOOD DISTRIBUTION
Providing food on MONDAYS from 3:30- 4:30pm every week!
Loaves & Fishes is an organization that Weller has been partnering with for two years to provide meals to our community. We understand that this time is not the most convenient, but this is the best that Loaves & Fishes can do with the current demands around the Bay Area.  A refrigerated truck will be stationed in front of the school by the office every week.

ATTENDANCE
It is important that you notify your child's teacher and the school office if your child will not be attending school for any reason. Failure to notify the school office of the reason for your child's absence may lead to the absence being declared unexcused and your child being classified as being truant from school.

Please contact the school office by 8:30 AM each day that your child will be out.  If your child is ill please make sure to let us know what symptoms they are displaying so that we can advise you on next steps and requirements before they return. Students who are showing any symptoms of illness must stay home and it is recommended that they are tested for Covid-19 before returning to school.

WELLER'S PTA
Joining the PTA is a way to show your support for the teachers, staff, and students.  Support can come in many forms, and joining the PTA doesn’t have to be a huge time commitment.  😊
Join the PTA today, and show your support for the school!
Weller PTA Website Page
The PTA has 3 types of members:
  • PTA Board Officers - Meet monthly and operate the business of the PTA
  • PTA Volunteers - Volunteer their time when they are able and want to, no commitment
  • PTA Members - No commitments, the membership fee helps, and the show of numbers shows our support (this is all you’re signing up for by joining)
Membership fee is $20 per family, which includes all of your students and their parents/guardians.  The PTA is a 501(c)(3) organization so the membership fee and additional donations are tax deductible as allowed by the IRS. Please fill out this membership form and send it into the school to your student’s teacher or drop it by the office with the $20 membership fee.  You can also join through our Totem page if you prefer.  We also always accept membership registrations at our events, just find our table or one of the PTA officers.

We are always looking for volunteers to help us run our events.  After you’ve joined the PTA, fill out this form and let us know what you’re interested in volunteering for and we’ll be in touch.

WELLER'S CORE VALUES
We are focusing on GENEROSITY this month as part of our Core Values Program! Students will be reading our book of the month, Dancing Hands, to learn about our creative and generous leader, Teresa Carreno. Students will engage in discussions and activities throughout the month to learn more about our spotlight leader and our core value: Generosity. As students participate in our lessons they are also creating special Core Values Books that they will be able to take home at the end of the year!  We encourage all families to participate with our Core Values Program! Please see below to learn more. 😁 Please click HERE to watch and listen to a read aloud of this month's story.
