Back to School!
This year, both our 5th grade and 6th grade will practice their academic and cognitive skill through our Personal Learning Plan (PLP). To learn more of our program, view our Back to School Night presentation here. As all our students viewed the presentation in class, be sure to ask your child to explain how our project-based program works. Other questions to ask:
What is personalized learning?
What is a growth mindset?
What is self-directed learning?
Common Core State Standards
Educational standards describe what students should know and be able to do in each subject in each grade. In California, the State Board of Education decides on the standards for all students, from kindergarten through high school.
Since 2010, a number of states across the nation have adopted the same standards for English and math. These standards are called the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
To read the CCSS standards in student-friendly "I can" statements, view the following.
P.E. Monday - Thursday, Alternating Weeks
During the 2016-17 school year, 5th and 6th grade students will receive P.E. four consecutive days, Monday through Friday for one hour (8:10 to 9:10) in the morning. Our program will serve each grade on alternating weeks.
Students need to wear tennis shoes and other appropriate clothing for P.E. class. Students may also bring bottled water, baseball hats, wear sunscreen, and have a small towel to lay upon the ground.
