Miss Monica's Pre-Kindergarten

Hello!

Welcome to our class website for the 2014/15 school year. Our daily activities and weekly themes can be found in the links below. I hope this page will serve as a valuable resource for families.

Please check back often! Website will be updated weekly.

Weekly Theme 4/20/15 Rainbows

We are moving from rain and clouds on to rainbows this week. We will be reading The Rainbow FishBear Sees ColorsPete the Cat I Love My White Shoes, and City Storm. We will be singing "Down By the Bay", "Row Your Boat", "Five Green and Speckled Frogs", and "Slippery Fish". Our art projects will all be centered around rainbows this week and for our center activities we will be practicing large jigsaw puzzles with a peer, turn taking games, and color matching in pairs.

We have been practicing counting how many peers come to school every day at circle time and are even reviewing some addition and subtraction facts!

Kindergarten Registration

Have you registered your child for Kindergarten yet? If your child will be 5 years old by September 2nd, he or she will be Kindergarten age.

Children born between September 2nd and December 2nd will be Transitional Kindergarten age and will also need to be registered at your home school.

Please feel free to contact me if you are unsure of where your home school is located. More information about Kindergarten Registration can be found on our district website or by clicking the link below.

April Themes and Activities

This month we will be learning about Spring. In addition to learning about the seasons changing we will be completing smaller units on rain, rainbows, and clouds. We will be talking about colors, learning color words, practicing our phonics. Please look in the calendar below for more details on which books we'll be reading, songs we'll be singing, and art projects we will be doing.

Weekly Theme 01/05/15

Happy New Year! We are back to business in room 109 and learning about the color white and snowmen this week. Please see below for more detailed plans.

Weekly Theme 12/8/14 Trees, Candy Canes, and Ornaments

We have a few days left to collect non-perishable food or cash donations for the Jack Emery drive. Thank you to all who have contributed!

We are learning about green trees, candy canes, and creating some personalized ornaments. More detailed plans can be found in the calendar below.

Weekly Theme 11/24/14 Thanksgiving

We will be continuing our Harvest and Fall food theme for our short week. We will be painting a placemat that the students will bring home Wednesday. The students are used to sitting and eating at their placemat at school. Introducing a placemat at home will give students continuity and can help those that have difficulty sitting at the table for meals.

The Jack Emery canned food drive is still going. We appreciate anything you can give!

There will be no school this Thursday and Friday, November 27th and 28th.

Weekly Theme 11/17/14 Harvest

This week we will be learning about Fall vegetables. We will color and paint corn, apples, squash, and other yummy things to fill our cornucopia!

Weller is also collecting canned goods for our Jack Emery Drive. Canned food and dry good donations will be collected until December 10th. Anything you can contribute is greatly appreciated!

Weekly Theme 11/10/14 Turkeys

Our focus this week will be on turkeys. We are counting turkeys as part of our daily calendar activity, practicing making turkey sounds, and will have many turkey art projects to complete.

There will be NO SCHOOL on Tuesday, November 11th, in honor of Veteran's Day.

Weekly Theme 11/3/14 Scarecrows

We will be returning to our Fall theme for the month of November. This week's focus will be scarecrows. We will be discussing the weather getting colder and the leaves changing color and falling off trees. More specific activities can be found in the calendar below.

There will be NO SCHOOL on Thursday, November 6th. It is a staff development day.

This Friday, November 7th will be makeup picture day. Please let me know if your child missed picture day and if you would like to order prints.

Weekly Theme 10/20/14 Spiders

This week we will be focusing on spiders and the color black. Daily activities can be seen under the calendar below.

A note was sent home on Monday regarding dietary restrictions for your child. Thank you if you have already returned this note!

Children are welcome to wear Halloween costumes to school next Friday (the 31st). The whole school parade is not until 1PM, but we will walk around the office to show off our costumes earlier.

Weekly Theme 10/13/14 Pumpkins

We will be talking about pumpkins and the color orange this week at school. We have been counting pumpkins in our daily calendar and singing the days of the week to the tune of "The Addams Family."

Please look to the calendar below for more detailed plans.

Weekly Theme 9/6/14 Spooky Songs

We will be spending time creating materials for our October songs this week. We will be making paper bag Jack-O-Lanterns for 5 Little Pumpkins, making windsock ghosts for Spooky Ghost, and popsicle stick bats for Fly Away Bat. We will be talking about pumpkins and the colors orange and black.

Weekly Theme 9/22/14 Fall

We will be spending the next two weeks learning about Fall. We will be coloring the pages for a book entitled "Fall Is", learning about fall colors (red, yellow, orange, and brown), and pretend to be Fall trees dropping leaves. We will also work cooperatively with peers to help "rake up" leaves from the ground.

Back to School Night

PowerPoint presentation from Back to School Night with links to resources can be found in the locker on the left side of the page.

Weekly Theme 9/15/14 Apples

This week we will be learning about apples. This theme offers a good opportunity to discuss colors (red, yellow, and green), practice sorting, and counting apples on to trees. Please see the calendar below for a more detailed list of daily activities.

Weekly Theme 9/8/14 All About Family

This week we will learn about families, and different members that can be in families (mothers, fathers, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents). If you would like to send your child with a few photos to show their peers that would be great!

Weekly Theme- 9/1/14 All About Friends

This week's focus will be on peer awareness, greeting, and creating opportunities for cooperative play. More detailed plans can be found in the calendar.
